Job Market Paper Title: Gender Division of Labor in the Making: Unpaid Household Work of Adolescents in Mongolia

Job Market Paper Abstract:

Distribution of unpaid household work between adolescent boys and girls has been studied in this paper using nationally representative 2011, 2015 and 2019 Time Use Surveys (TUS) of Mongolia. The paper attempts to examine different types of domestic labor undertaken by children and their time spent on such activities by employing Tobit, OLS and Multinomial Logit models. Findings indicate that girls spend about an hour more a day on household work compared to boys. Girls also spend more time on childcare while they spend less time on leisure related activities. Multinomial logit results suggest that girls are more likely to be engaged in household work and childcare when they are less likely to do so in terms of leisure related activities in comparison to boys.
